Reader’s Question:

I had an accident in ND and I have $30,000 of Personal Injury Protection, does this means that my medical bills will only cover $30000?

Grace

Thank you for asking Grace.

You would only have $30,000 of coverage under your Personal Injury Protection coverage. Bodily Injury Liability coverage is for other people you may have injured, not yourself. If you have health insurance, I would contact them for additional coverage.

Had you injured anyone in the other vehicle and you were at fault then the person that you hurt would have to pay their Personal Injury Protection first. That pays first regardless who was at fault. After their Personal Injury Protection is exhausted then they would seek payment from you your Bodily Injury. In your case you would have additional medical coverage for them up to $100,000 per person and $300,000 per accident. Had the other driver been at fault and not have $100,000/$300,000 coverage then your uninsured motorist coverage would pay over and above your Personal Injury Protection.

Goodluck!

  1. hi, I live in nevada, I had a DUI a year ago in ND, now that I am trying to have a Driving license, I was told that I have a “non eligible status” that I have to clear with ND, when called them they asked, to be reinstated for 100$, alcohol evaluation, , (took care of all of that) and an SR22… my question is, I can’t go all the way back to ND, will they accpet an SR22 from nevada, do I have to have to have it from the first place cos I live in a different state now. (my e_mail is mot_art@hotmail.com)
