If I purchase car in Fargo, North Dakota is it necessary to have auto insurance? I cannot afford auto insurance right now.

North Dakota state law requires that all cars registered and operated in the state must carry certain minimum insurance coverages
In North Dakota driving without liability car insurance is a class B misdemeanor and is punishable by a mandatory at least $150 fine. In addition to that, if you get involved in any accident, the state will assess 14 points against your driver’s license, and this will result in a suspension or revocation of your driver’s license.
When a motorist has been convicted of driving without liability insurance, the law requires that the person show proof of liability insurance to the North Dakota Drivers License Division of The Department of Transportation for a period of three years. Insurance providers can file with state using the Certificate of Motor Vehicle Liability Insurance form published by the Drivers License Division for this purpose. The state does not require that an insurance provider use an SR-22 form for this purpose.
